How to Factory Reset / Clear Pairing History of Sennheiser Headphones & Earbuds

Clear saved Bluetooth connections if your Sennheiser device will not pair or keeps connecting to the wrong device.

Before you start: Charge your Sennheiser headphones or earbuds before resetting them. Choose your model below.
Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC / HD 4.40

Step 1 – Enter Pairing Mode

Put the headphones into Bluetooth pairing mode.

Step 2 – Clear the Pairing History

  1. While the headphones are in pairing mode, press and hold the Multi-function button and Power button together.
  2. Hold both buttons for about 4 seconds.
PURPLE flashes 3 times = Pairing history cleared
The headphones disconnect from saved devices and return to Bluetooth pairing mode.
Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless
Important: Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on the headphones before starting.

Step 1 – Enter Pairing Mode

  1. Turn the headphones OFF, then turn them ON again.
  2. Press and hold the Effect Mode Control button for about 4 seconds.
  3. Release when you hear “Pairing.”
WHITE LEDs flashing in sequence = Pairing mode

Step 2 – Clear the Pairing List

  1. While the headphones are in pairing mode, press and hold the Effect Mode Control button again for about 4 seconds.
  2. Release when you hear “Pairing list cleared.”

Sennheiser HD1 / M2 AEBT

Step 1 – Enter Pairing Mode

  1. Turn the headphones ON.
  2. Press and hold the Power button.
  3. Release when you hear “Pairing.”
RED & BLUE flashing = Pairing mode

Step 2 – Clear the Pairing History

  1. While the headphones are in pairing mode, press and hold the 3-way Multi-function button and Power button together.
  2. Hold both buttons for about 3 seconds.
PURPLE flashes 3 times = Pairing history cleared
The headphones automatically return to pairing mode.
Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless

Before You Start

  1. Make sure the charging contacts on the earbuds and charging case are clean.
  2. Connect the charging case to a power source with the USB cable.
  3. Place both earbuds inside the charging case.

Factory Reset

  1. Within 60 seconds of placing the earbuds in the case, touch and hold the LEFT and RIGHT touch controls at the same time.
  2. Keep holding for at least 30 seconds.
Reset complete: The earbuds are restored to their factory default settings.
Another option: You can also reset the earbuds with the Sennheiser Smart Control app.

Pair with an Avantree Transmitter Again

  1. Put the Sennheiser headphones or earbuds into Bluetooth pairing mode.
  2. Put the Avantree transmitter into Bluetooth pairing mode.
  3. Keep both devices close together and wait for them to connect.
Reset Did Not Work?
  1. Make sure you are following the steps for your exact Sennheiser model.
  2. Put the headphones into pairing mode first when required.
  3. Hold the buttons for the full amount of time.
  4. Check for the correct reset confirmation:
  • HD 4.50 / HD 4.40: PURPLE flashes 3 times
  • PXC 550: “Pairing list cleared”
  • HD1 / M2 AEBT: PURPLE flashes 3 times
  • MOMENTUM True Wireless: Make sure both earbuds touch the charging contacts before starting.
