Connect Your Xbox One Controller to a Windows PC Using DG45

Follow these four steps to connect a Bluetooth-compatible Xbox One controller to your Windows computer using the Avantree DG45 Bluetooth adapter.

Important: Check Controller Compatibility

Not every Xbox One controller supports Bluetooth. Make sure yours has built-in Bluetooth before proceeding.

✓ Bluetooth-Compatible Controller

Xbox One controller models with built-in Bluetooth can pair with a compatible Windows Bluetooth adapter.

✕ Non-Bluetooth Controller

Older Xbox One controllers without Bluetooth cannot pair directly through DG45.

Tip: Controllers without Bluetooth generally require a compatible Xbox Wireless Adapter or wired connection.

Step 1 of 4 — Open Bluetooth Settings

Step 4 of 4 — Select Your Controller

Open Bluetooth Settings on Your Computer

Plug DG45 into your Windows computer and open the Bluetooth device pairing screen.

Find the Bluetooth icon in the Windows taskbar.
Select Add a Bluetooth device.
Click Add Bluetooth or other device.
The original guide begins by selecting Bluetooth.

Using Windows 11?

Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Add device. Windows 11 uses a different pairing interface from the Windows 10 screenshots in this guide.

Put Your Xbox Controller in Pairing Mode

Turn on your Bluetooth-compatible Xbox controller and activate pairing mode.

Press the Xbox button to turn on the controller.
Press and hold the controller's Pair button until the Xbox button begins flashing.
Keep the controller close to your computer while completing the connection.

How Do I Know Pairing Mode Is Active?

The Xbox button should flash repeatedly, indicating that the controller is ready to connect.

Choose Everything Else in Windows

In the Windows 10 Add a device window, the original Avantree guide instructs you to select Everything else.

Different Windows Pairing Screen?

For a standard Bluetooth-compatible Xbox controller, Windows may instead list the controller under the Bluetooth category. If Everything else does not discover your controller, return to Add device and try Bluetooth.

Select Your Xbox Controller

Wait for Windows to find your controller, then select its name from the device list.

Look for Xbox Wireless Controller or your controller's displayed device name.
Click the controller to begin pairing.
Wait for Windows to finish connecting.

When pairing succeeds, Windows should display a confirmation screen.

Your Xbox controller is now paired with your Windows PC.

Connected but Not Responding?

Open a game or Windows controller-testing tool to confirm that the buttons and joysticks respond. Game compatibility and controller configuration may vary.

Common Questions

Does Every Xbox One Controller Support Bluetooth?

No. Some older Xbox One controllers do not have built-in Bluetooth.

Check your controller model and specifications before attempting to connect it through DG45.

Why Can't Windows Find My Xbox Controller?

Make sure your controller supports Bluetooth and is in pairing mode.

If it is already connected to an Xbox console, turn off the console and try pairing again.

You can also try searching under Bluetooth instead of Everything else in the Windows Add device menu.

What If My Controller Connects but Doesn't Work in a Game?

First, confirm that Windows recognizes the controller and its buttons respond.

Then check the game's controller support and input settings. Bluetooth pairing alone does not guarantee compatibility with every game.
