LE Audio Sony Compatibility Guide – Avantree Support

Sony WH-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM6 headphones can work with compatible Avantree LE Audio transmitters. The setup depends on whether you are using Auracast Broadcast or LE Audio Point-to-Point.

Which Sony headphones do you have?

Check the model printed on your headphones or in the Sony app first. WH-1000XM5 users should also verify that the headphones are running the latest firmware.

Before troubleshooting: update your WH-1000XM5 to the latest available firmware, then reconnect it to the Avantree transmitter.

Choose how you want to connect

Avantree transmitters may use either Auracast broadcasting or a direct LE Audio point-to-point connection. Choose the option that matches your transmitter.

Option 1

Auracast Broadcast

The transmitter broadcasts audio, and your Sony headphones join the available Auracast broadcast.

LE Audio Point-to-Point

The transmitter connects directly to your Sony headphones through LE Audio instead of joining an Auracast broadcast.

Using WH-1000XM5 and it won't connect?

Do this before resetting or troubleshooting the Avantree transmitter.

Open the Sony headphones app on your phone.
Check whether a firmware update is available for your WH-1000XM5.
Install the latest available firmware.
Restart the headphones after the update.
Put the Avantree transmitter and headphones back into pairing / connection mode.
Try the LE Audio connection again.

Why start here? Older WH-1000XM5 firmware may not provide the LE Audio functionality needed for the connection.

1 My Sony headphones don't connect in LE Audio

Confirm that your headphones are WH-1000XM5 or WH-1000XM6.
Update the headphones to the latest available firmware.
Restart both the Sony headphones and Avantree transmitter.
Put both devices back into their required connection / pairing mode.
Try connecting again.

WH-1000XM5: firmware should be the first thing you check if LE Audio does not work.

2 It connects, but only using standard Bluetooth

A successful standard Bluetooth connection does not necessarily mean the headphones are using LE Audio.

Confirm that you are using an Avantree transmitter that supports the connection type you need.
Check that the transmitter is set up for LE Audio / Auracast rather than standard Bluetooth.
Restart the transmitter after changing its connection mode.
Reconnect the Sony headphones.

Key point: the transmitter and headphones must both be using the compatible LE Audio connection method.

3 My WH-1000XM5 still doesn't work after pairing

Check the Sony app again for any available firmware update.
Restart the headphones.
Restart the Avantree transmitter.
Re-enter the required connection mode on both devices.
Reconnect and test again.

If the headphones are still running older firmware, repeatedly pairing them with the transmitter may not resolve the LE Audio compatibility issue.

4 It connects, but the audio disconnects or stutters

Move closer to the Avantree transmitter.
Keep large objects and other electronics away from the transmitter where possible.
Restart both the transmitter and Sony headphones.
Reconnect and test again at close range.

If the connection becomes stable when you are closer to the transmitter, distance, obstacles, or wireless interference may be affecting the signal.

Quick diagnosis

XM5 won't connect at all Check and update the Sony headphone firmware first.

Only standard Bluetooth works Check the transmitter's connection mode and make sure you're using the correct LE Audio connection type.

LE Audio connects but is unstable Test at close range and reduce obstacles or nearby wireless interference.
