FM Static or Noise Issues?

Static usually happens when the FM frequency is already in use or there is interference nearby. Try these quick steps.

Before You Start

The most important step is to choose an FM frequency that is not being used by a local radio station.

1 Find an Unused FM Frequency

Use your car radio to find an FM frequency where you do not hear a radio station, music, or voices.

What Should You Hear?

Choose a frequency with only quiet background static. Avoid frequencies where you can hear even a weak radio station.

2 Match the FM Frequency

Set Roadtrip to exactly the same FM frequency as your car radio.

Important

Roadtrip and your car radio must show the same frequency. Different frequencies may cause weak sound, static, or no sound.

3 Still Hearing Static? Try Another Frequency

FM interference can vary depending on your location. A frequency that looks unused may still have interference.

Try This

Find another unused FM frequency on your car radio.

Then

Set Roadtrip to the new frequency and test the sound again.

4 Check for Interference

Other electronic accessories inside your car may sometimes cause interference.

Quick Test

Temporarily unplug other chargers or electronic accessories in the car. Then play audio through Roadtrip again.

Static Returns While Driving?

An FM frequency that is clear in one location may be used by a radio station in another area. If static returns during your trip, find another unused frequency and set both your car radio and Roadtrip to it.
