PowerByte – Firmware Update v2.0: Fix Unexpected Shutdown
Does your PowerByte unexpectedly turn off after switching modes? Firmware v2.0 fixes this specific shutdown issue.
Is This the Problem You Have?
Update to v2.0 if your PowerByte starts in Bluetooth mode, you switch to FM, SD, or USB, and it unexpectedly turns off after about 10 minutes.
What You Need
- USB flash drive – 32GB or smaller
- Computer
- Firmware file: update.ufw
Step 1 – Download the Firmware
Click update.ufw to download the PowerByte firmware file to your computer.
Do not rename the file.
Step 2 – Prepare the USB Flash Drive
- Connect the USB flash drive to your computer.
- Make sure it is formatted as FAT32.
- Remove any other files.
- Copy update.ufw directly onto the USB drive.
The firmware file should not be inside a folder. Safely remove the USB drive from your computer.
Step 3 – Install the Firmware
- Turn the PowerByte ON. It can be in any mode.
- Insert the USB flash drive into the PowerByte's USB port.
- The screen will turn BLACK.
⚠️ The Black Screen Is Normal
The update has started. Do not turn off the PowerByte or remove the USB drive.
Wait about 16 seconds. The screen will briefly light up, you will hear several beeps, then the screen will turn off again.
Step 4 – After the Update
- Remove the USB flash drive.
- Turn the PowerByte OFF.
- Turn it back ON.
Step 5 – Check That the Problem Is Fixed
After restarting, check that the PowerByte works normally in all modes.
Test the shutdown issue:
- Start in Bluetooth mode.
- Switch to FM, SD, or USB mode.
- Use it for more than 10 minutes.
Update Did Not Start?
If the screen does not turn black, check:
- USB drive is 32GB or smaller
- USB drive is FAT32
- File is named update.ufw
- File is not inside a folder
- USB drive contains no other files
Insert the USB drive again. If it still does not start, try another compatible USB flash drive.
PowerByte Still Shuts Down?
If the problem continues, note:
- Which mode you were using
- Which mode you switched to
- How long it takes before the PowerByte turns off
