SP851 – How to Improve Radio Reception & Reduce Static
If your FM or DAB+ radio has static, cuts out, or has weak reception, try these steps in order.
Step 1 – Fully Extend the Antenna
Extend the SP851 antenna all the way. Then slowly change the antenna’s position while listening to the station.
Step 2 – Move the Radio Near a Window
Move the SP851 closer to a window or open area, then listen to the same station again. Walls, buildings, and enclosed rooms can weaken radio signals.
Step 3 – Move Away from Electronics
Keep the SP851 several feet away from Wi-Fi routers or mesh units, TVs, phones, computers, and other electronic devices that may cause interference.
Step 4 – Move Away from Metal
Do not place the SP851 directly on or next to large metal objects or surfaces. Move it to an open table, shelf, or another location, then test again.
Step 5 – Try Another Station
Try several FM or DAB+ stations.
Only one station has poor reception? That station’s signal may be weak in your area.
Several stations have poor reception? Move the SP851 to another location, preferably near a window, and test again.

Reception Is Poor Even Near a Window
Try several stations. Radio reception depends on signal coverage in your area and can be weaker in rural locations, inside some buildings, or far from a station’s transmitter.
DAB+ or FM Works Better Than the Other
This can be normal. DAB+ and FM use different broadcasts, so reception strength may be different in the same location. Fully extend the antenna and find its best position for the station you want to hear.
