Audio Cutting Out, Choppy Sound, or Short Bluetooth Range? How to Fix
If your sound keeps cutting out, sounds choppy, or only works at a short distance, follow these steps in order.
Step 1 – Turn OFF Nearby Bluetooth Devices
Your headphones may be connected to another device.
- Turn OFF Bluetooth on nearby phones, tablets, and computers.
- Restart your Bluetooth transmitter and headphones.
- Test the sound again.
Step 2 – Move Devices Closer Together
- Place your headphones and transmitter 3–6 feet (1–2 meters) apart.
- Keep a clear space between them.
- Test the sound again.
Sound Improved? Distance or obstacles may be causing the problem.
Step 3 – Reduce Wireless Interference
- Move the transmitter away from Wi-Fi routers, TV boxes, and other wireless devices.
- Temporarily turn OFF your Wi-Fi router to test.
- If the sound improves, move the transmitter farther from the router before turning Wi-Fi back ON.
Note: Turning OFF your router will temporarily disconnect devices using its Wi-Fi network. Turn it back ON after testing.
Step 4 – Reset and Pair Again
If the sound still cuts out:
- Factory reset your Bluetooth transmitter, if you are using one.
- Factory reset your headphones.
- Pair them again and test the sound.
Important: Turning a device OFF and ON does not clear its Bluetooth pairing history. Follow the factory reset instructions for your specific model.
Still Having Problems?
Some Bluetooth headphones, especially small wireless earbuds, may have a shorter operating range.
- Try another pair of compatible Bluetooth headphones.
- Test them at the same distance from the transmitter.
- If the second pair works normally, the original headphones may be contributing to the problem.
