If your hearing aids stutter, or work for a while and then stop, follow the steps below.
This can happen if the hearing aids switch between the Auracast broadcast and another Bluetooth device, if the audio signal to the transmitter is interrupted, or due to wireless interference.
1. Turn Off Bluetooth on Your Phone
Your hearing aids may also be connected to your phone and switch away from the Auracast broadcast when another audio stream becomes active.
Temporarily turn off Bluetooth on your phone while watching TV and check whether the connection becomes stable.
If your hearing aids are connected to other phones or tablets, turn off Bluetooth on those devices as well during testing.
2. Check the LED Indicators When the Audio Stops
If the audio works normally for a while and then stops, do not restart the transmitter immediately.
First, check these two LEDs on the transmitter:
- Hearing Aid LED: Is it white?
- Audio Signal LED: Is it solid white?
If the Hearing Aid LED is NOT white
Short-press the Auracast button once. The Hearing Aid LED should turn white.
Then check whether your hearing aids are still connected to the Audikast 4 broadcast in your hearing aid app.
If the Audio Signal LED is NOT solid white
The transmitter may not be receiving a stable audio signal.
- Make sure your TV/audio source is playing audio.
- Check the Optical or AUX cable connection.
- If using Optical, make sure your TV's digital audio format is set to PCM.
If BOTH LEDs are white
If the Hearing Aid LED is white and the Audio Signal LED is solid white, but the audio still stutters or stops, continue with the steps below.
3. Check for Other Nearby Devices
Other devices previously paired with your hearing aids may also affect the connection.
Temporarily turn off Bluetooth on nearby:
- Smartphones
- Tablets
- Laptops
- Other previously paired devices
Then check whether the stuttering or audio dropouts stop.
4. Reconnect the Hearing Aids
If the issue continues:
- Put your hearing aids back into their charging case.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Take them out again.
- Allow them to re-join the Auracast broadcast.
Then test the audio again.
5. Move Closer to the Transmitter
For testing, stay within a few feet of the transmitter.
If the audio becomes stable when you move closer, distance or wireless interference may be affecting the connection.
6. Restart the Devices
If the issue continues:
- Turn off the Audikast 4 / Audikast 4HA.
- Restart your hearing aids.
- Turn the transmitter back on.
- Rejoin the Auracast broadcast if necessary.
Most Common Reason
A common cause is the hearing aids switching between the Auracast broadcast and another Bluetooth device, such as a phone.
This can result in:
- Stuttering
- Audio dropouts
- Intermittent sound
- The audio working for a while and then stopping
Tip
If you don't need to switch between your phone and TV audio, temporarily turn off Bluetooth on your phone while watching TV. This can help keep the hearing aids on the Auracast broadcast.
If the problem continues, you can also temporarily turn off Wi-Fi and 5G/mobile data on nearby smartphones to check whether wireless interference is contributing to the issue.
