Set Your TV Audio Format to PCM

If your Avantree transmitter is connected to your TV using Optical or HDMI ARC, your TV needs to send a compatible digital audio format.

The setting you need is usually called Digital Audio Output, Digital Audio Out, or Digital Sound Output.

IMPORTANT SETTING

Set the Digital Audio Format to PCM

Find the digital audio format setting in your TV's sound menu.

Set it to:

WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS

Choose Your TV Brand

Open your TV brand and follow the steps. Menu names may vary slightly by TV model and software version.

Samsung

Press Home on your remote.
Go to Settings, then All Settings, then Sound, then Sound Output.
Select Optical or HDMI ARC.
Return to Sound and open Expert Settings.
Set Digital Output to PCM.

Sony

Press Quick Settings or Home.
Go to Settings, then Display & Sound, then Audio Output.
Set Digital Audio Out to PCM.

Also check: Set Dolby Digital Plus Output to Off.

Press the Settings button on your remote.
Go to Settings, then Sound, then Sound Output.
Select Optical Out Device or HDMI ARC.
Set Digital Sound Output to PCM.

Also check: Turn Dolby Atmos off.

TCL

Press Home on your remote.
Go to Settings, then Sound, then Audio Output.
Select Optical or HDMI ARC.
Go to Sound, then Advanced Settings, then Digital Audio Out.
Select PCM.

Roku TV

Press Home on your remote.
Go to Settings, then Audio, then Audio Output.
Select Optical or ARC.
Return to Audio and open Digital Output Format.
Set the digital sound output to PCM.

VIZIO

Press Menu on your remote.
Go to Audio, then Audio Output.
Set TV Speakers to Off.
Open Digital Audio Out and select PCM.

Hisense

Press Home on your remote.
Go to Settings, then Sound, then Audio Output Settings, then Audio Output.
Select Optical or ARC.
Return to Audio Output Settings and open Digital Audio Out.
Select PCM.

Philips

Press Home on your remote.
Go to Settings, then All Settings, then Display & Sound, then Audio Output, then Output Device.
Select Optical or HDMI ARC.
Return to Audio Output and open Audio Output Type.
Select PCM.

Panasonic

Press Menu on your remote.
Go to Sound or Audio.
Open Digital Audio Out or Digital Audio Selection.
Select PCM.

Sharp

Press Settings on your remote.
Go to Sound, then Advanced Audio Settings, then Digital Audio Out Type.
Select PCM.

Insignia

Press Settings on your remote.
Go to Display and Sound, then Audio Output.
Select Digital Audio Format.
Change the setting to PCM.

Cannot Find These Settings?

TV menus can be different depending on the model and software version. Search Google using your exact TV brand and model number.

SEARCH FOR: [TV brand] [TV model] set digital audio output to PCM

For example, if your TV is a Samsung QN90D, search:

After Setting the TV to PCM

Play a TV program or video that has sound.

If your Avantree transmitter and headphones or speaker are connected correctly, you should now hear the TV audio.

PCM Is Selected but Still No Sound?

If your TV is already set to PCM but you still cannot hear audio, the problem may be related to the TV audio output, cable connection, transmitter input, or headphone connection.
