HDMI ARC Troubleshooting

If an HDMI ARC transmitter or audio device has no sound, your TV may be sending eARC instead of standard ARC.

What to Change

Set eARC to Off

Keep the TV connected to its HDMI ARC/eARC port, but turn off the TV's eARC setting so it uses standard ARC instead.

The exact menu name varies by TV.

Open the main settings menu on your TV.

Look for Sound, Audio, or Audio Output.

Find the eARC setting and change it to Off.

eARC / HDMI-eARC Mode → Off

Restart the TV after changing the setting, then test the HDMI ARC connection again.

Turning eARC off allows the TV to use standard ARC, which is compatible with devices that do not support eARC.

Try the path for your TV brand below. Menu names may vary by model and software version.

Samsung Settings → Sound → Expert Settings HDMI-eARC Mode → Off

Sony Settings → Sound or Display & Sound → Audio Output eARC Mode → Off

LG Settings → Sound → Additional Settings eARC → Off

VIZIO Menu → Audio eARC → Off

TCL Settings → Channels & Inputs → Inputs Look for the HDMI / eARC setting for the connected port

Can't find the setting?

TV menus vary by model. Search your TV's manual for “eARC” or “HDMI eARC”.

eARC Is Off but There Is Still No Sound

Check the TV's Digital Audio Format. If available, set it to PCM.

Also make sure the transmitter or converter is connected to the TV's HDMI port labeled ARC or eARC.
