The line out at the back of a TV is not the same as a headphone out, and plugging a wired headphone into it usually won't work properly. Here's the difference:
🔊 Line Out
Fixed-level audio output (volume doesn't change with TV remote)
Designed to connect to external amplified speakers, AV receivers, or amplifiers
Low power – not meant to drive headphones directly
Often labeled as:
LINE OUT,AUDIO OUT (L/R), orRCA OUT
🎧 Headphone Out
Variable volume – controlled by TV remote
Provides enough power to drive headphones directly
Typically 3.5mm jack on the side or front of TV (not the back)
🔌 If You Plug Headphones into a Line Out:
You might hear something, but:
The volume will likely be very low
It may be mono or distorted
You risk damaging the TV or headphones (if impedance mismatch)
✅ Solution:
If your TV only has line out and you want to use wired headphones, you’ll need:
🔊 A headphone amplifier
→ Plug line out from TV → into headphone amp → then plug headphones into the amp.
